If you sit and watch enough reality TV, you can start to believe that all the world’s problems can be solved in 60 minutes. We are lulled into believing that this scripted reality drama is a reflection of real life, but it isn’t. In these shows people rise from famine to fortune in a few short weeks. Every show is filled with excitement, heartbreak, and some astounding resolution that wraps up the event’s day like a Christmas present. Some of us will charge up our credit cards to provide of kids with the perfect Christmas, but the bill will eventually come due.
Life is messy and complicated. If we want to live the IDEAL life we must examine the cost of that life. There is always a cost to achieving our dreams. As you set out on your journey, be sure to count the cost.
This holiday season I am sharing 12 short holiday posts to help you and yours get through this season with a little bit of joy and happiness intact. Many find the holiday season warm and inviting, but others get caught up in the hype of the season and even fall into the envy trap of comparing our lives to the lives of others. I would encourage you to create your own traditions and norms this time of the year. Don’t worry if the activities of your family or friends don’t match those of others. Be happy and define what works for you and yours.
